"Australia is in the midst of a Coal Seam Gasrush, led by major industry players such as the BG Group of the UK, Petronasof Malaysia and ConocoPhillips of the USA.
They are taking advantage ofrapidly emerging opportunities to supply coal-bed/seam methane gas to thelucrative Asian markets."Traditionally Australian gas producers have been allowed to dispose of watercheaply in large evaporation ponds. Long droughts in Australia and environmentconcerns have meant employing other treatment systems such as reverse osmosis(RO) plants. Water recovery in these plants is an expensive process and islimited to a 70% recovery rate. The leftover regenerate waste presentsproducers with a major problem, given that the government now requiressignificant reductions in waste and improved discharge water quality.Regulations have also been submitted requiring gas producers to treat the CSGwater for a variety of agricultural purposes, in addition to augmenting localmunicipal water supplies. Much of the associated expense to process the CSGdischarge water will be borne by the CSG producers.Gas extraction is a relatively simple process.
However, the massive amount ofwater that must be extracted to remove the gas poses a major problem forproducers. Solving this issue is paramount in enabling the industry to moveforward and profit from the large Asian gas markets. Another benefit of RGGlobal's DynIX(TM) technology is it can be used as a standalone process or asa pre-treatment in optimizing economic and operational viability of existingRO facilities. The project is valued at $8 billion and is planned to start in early2010. It has also been reported that Santos will develop one of Australia'slargest forestry plantations by planting over 2 million native trees in aneffort to use the water (over 30 Olympic-sized swimming pools a day) that willcome from its CSG fields in Queensland. The vast majority of coal seam gas in Australia, is located in the Surat andBowen Basins in Queensland. It has been estimated that as many as 25,000 wellswill be drilled in these areas.
The expected annual rate of CSG waterproduction in the Surat Basin alone is 25 gigalitres. The quantity of thishighly saline water is considered an environmental risk by the QueenslandGovernment and has given rise to their recent introduction and imposition ongas producers of stringent CSG water management plans and practices About RG Global RG Global Lifestyles, Inc. develops and markets innovative technologies forwater purification and wastewater treatment. Major energy production companieshave selected RG's proven DynIX(TM) technology to economically treat coal bedmethane wastewater, making production of this plentiful, clean-burning gasmore economically feasible and environmentally friendly. NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The physical challenges and demands of participating in a competitive high school marching band are similar to those experienced by athletes who compete in sports like football, according to research presented at the American College of Sports Medicine's annual meeting in Seattle. Sports | HealthToday, marching bands no longer just march in precision formation, study presenter Gary Granata, told Reuters Health. Nearly a quarter said they felt faint or sick to their stomach after marching band participation and more than half experienced heat-related illness. In addition, more than 38 percent said they had suffered an injury as a direct result of participating in marching band. The wealth of research conducted on traditional sports has led to guidelines that help ensure the safety of participants and proper methods to enhance training regimens, Granata noted.
